SALEM — Members of the MSAD #58 school board met last Thursday, Jan. 5. In the first order of business, the heard from Stratton and Kingfield principal Andrea Ferrari who announced that her Stratton eighth graders were traveling to Quebec for their field trip. Kingfield students were bound for Boston with a stop at a New Hampshire amusement park.
Strong and Phillips principal Felecia Pease briefly explained that her Strong students were heading to Portland and Boston. The eighth graders would not be spending the night in the Boston area. Instead, closer to the Springfield area where they can experience Six Flags Amusement Park.
Phillips eighth graders are bound for Quebec. Pease explained that both trips are costing around $530 per person.
Superintendent Brenda Stevens explained that the cost of the trips was not always driven by where you go, but rather what you do when your there. Activities such as catching a show can drive up the cost. The $500 per student cost appeared to be the norm over the years, she said.
The school board had only a couple of questions and no concern over this years eighth grade field trips. In almost all of the four elementary schools, the fundraising needed for the class trips are nearly complete.
